LAGOS, Nigeria (VOICE OF NAIJA) – In a bid to alleviate the current economic hardship and rising cost of food items on citizens, the Lagos State Government has reopened its special Sunday markets, offering discounted food items.
Residents have been informed however, that prices may vary slightly depending on the location.

Initially met with mixed reactions during their first Sunday of operation, the discount markets offer a range of food items including rice, beans, garri, bread, eggs, tomatoes, peppers, and onions.
Omotoso assured that the coordination of activities in each market involves government officials, youth volunteers, and private sector payment solution providers to ensure smooth operations.
Highlighting the government’s commitment to impacting various sectors of the economy, Omotoso announced the introduction of a new market location in Lekki Phase 1 to serve residents in that area.
Detailed information about the Ounje Eko markets’ locations is available on all Lagos State Government social media platforms.
During the initial reopening on March 17, large crowds gathered at various centres across Lagos, such as Lagos Progressive Junior Secondary School in Surulere, where residents queued up as early as 6 am to access the discounted food programme.
