LAGOS, Nigeria (VOICE OF NAIJA)- The Nigerian Labour Congress (NLC) has thrown its weight behind the ongoing strike led by the Non-Academic Staff Union of Educational (NASU) and the Senior Staff Association of Nigerian Universities (SSANU), demanding the prompt payment of salaries owed to affected workers

voiceofnaija.ng reported that on March 18, both NASU and SSANU are aggrieved over the government failure to address the repeated issues on their members financial plight.

In a statement issued by NLC President Joe Ajaero on Monday, the organization expressed solidarity with NASU and SSANU, emphasizing the unjustifiable nature of withholding salaries from their members.

Ajaero underscored the importance of avoiding discriminatory practices against union members, warning that such actions could exacerbate industrial tensions.

“It’s just not right to make these workers wait for their pay,” Ajaero said. “And it’s even worse to treat them differently from others. If the government keeps this up, it’s asking for more trouble.”

Ajaero also warned about the ripple effects of dragging out this fight. He said it’s not just about the workers – it’s also hitting students and parents hard, especially with all the disruptions to classes

Meanwhile, NASU and SSANU initiated a 7-day warning strike in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), with members at the University of Abuja actively participating by blocking the university’s entrance gate in solidarity with the industrial action.
