LAGOS Nigeria (VOICE OF NAIJA) –The Federal Government has threatened to sanction foreign airlines that defy directives to release low inventory tickets amidst the ongoing forex crisis.
Last week, the Nigerian Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA) convened a meeting with airline operators, foreign airlines, and the National Association of Nigeria Travel Agencies (NANTA) in Abuja, during which the directive was issued.
During the meeting, foreign airlines pledged to improve transparency in air ticketing processes by making low inventory tickets available, thereby making air travel more affordable for the Nigerian middle class.

This commitment followed the partial release of the $700m trapped air ticket funds to foreign airlines by the Federal Government.
However, investigations revealed that not all foreign airlines have adhered to the directive.
Michael Achimugu, the Director of Public Affairs and Consumer Protection at NCAA, warned that airlines failing to comply risk sanctions.
“The meeting between the NCAA and the foreign airlines had NANTA present,” Achimugu stated.
