LAGOS Nigeria ( VOICE OF NAIJA )-The Minister of Power, Mr. Adebayo Adelabu, has requested an urgent meeting with the leadership of two Electricity Distribution Companies (DisCos) next week to tackle the deteriorating power supply in their regions.
The invited CEOs include those from the Abuja Electricity Distribution Company (AEDC) and the Ibadan Electricity Distribution Company (IBDC).
Additionally, the Managing Director of the Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN), Mr. Sule Abdulazeez, is summoned to the meeting.
The letter signed by the Director of Distribution Services at the Ministry of Power, Mr. B.U Mustapha, underscores the urgent need to address the declining power supply.
Furthermore, the management of other underperforming distribution companies will also be queried regarding their non-performance amidst reports of deteriorating power situations in their regions.

The summoning of the two DisCos follows concerns over the worsening power supply situation despite improved supply from TCN. Mr. Bolaji Tunji, Special Adviser on Strategic Communication and Media Relations at the ministry, highlighted that despite gas shortages, electricity generation has surpassed 4000MW in recent days.
Tunji expressed the ministry’s expectation of an improved power supply across the country, contrary to the current challenges experienced in some regions. He cited deliberate non-acceptance of power supply from TCN by some distribution companies and incidents of vandalism damaging power lines in regions such as Abuja, Benin, Port Harcourt, and Ibadan.
Minister Adelabu emphasized that deliberate non-performance by any DisCo could lead to severe penalties or even the revocation of their operating licenses.
