Lagos, Nigeria (VOICE OF NAIJA)- The First Lady of Nigeria, Oluremi Tinubu has inaugurated a programme tagged ‘Renewed Hope Initiative,’ (RHI).
The initiative is a grassroots effort aimed at empowering women farmers and alleviating poverty nationwide.
Supported by the National Agricultural Land Development Authority (NALDA), the initiative was launched in Owerri, Imo State capital, on Wednesday.
Speaking during the launch, Mrs. Tinubu said that the RHI aligns with the administration’s commitment to bolster the agricultural sector and ensure food security.
“Under the initiative, 20 women farmers per state will receive financial and material assistance totaling N10 million per state,” she said.

She presented N10 million bank drafts to the South-East First Ladies, who serve as zonal coordinators.
On his part, NALDA’s executive-secretary, Prince Paul Ikonne, reaffirmed NALDA’s dedication to collaborating with the First Lady’s Office to promote women, especially youth, in agribusiness.
He announced provisions for two million women under the program and pledged NALDA’s unwavering support nationwide.
The First Lady of Imo State and South-East zonal chairman of RHI, Barrister (Mrs.) Chioma Uzodimma while speaking commended the President and First Lady for their backing of the initiative as she highlighted its potential to drive community development and inclusivity.
The event featured the distribution of agricultural inputs to beneficiaries.
Two hundred women received maize farming kits, including seeds, liquid fertilisers, and herbicides, while another 200 obtained poultry farming supplies, including birds, cages, and feed.
Beneficiaries expressed gratitude for the support and pledged to utilise the inputs effectively to enhance their livelihoods.
The occasion attracted prominent women leaders, including Hajia Nana Shettima, wife of the Vice-President, and Mrs. Ekaette Unoma Akpabio, wife of the Senate President. Also in attendance were South-East state governors’ wives, Mrs. Salamatu Gbajabiamila (wife of the Chief of Staff to the President), traditional rulers, industrialists, women cooperative groups, stakeholders, and beneficiaries from across the region.
