ENUGU, Nigeria (VOICE OF NAIJA)- Man identified as Olubodun Sanni, has been arrested by the police command in Ondo for the murder of Ifeoluwa Adekunle of Adekunle Ajasin University Akungba Akoko (AAUA) after allegedly stealing her phone.
Adekunle, a student in the Department of Economics at the state-owned university, was found dead 14 days ago, after was allegedly attacked in her room located off-campus.
Addressing journalists on Tuesday in Akure, police commissioner Abayomi Oladipo disclosed that Sanni, a 400-level student in the Geology department and the late Adekunle were neighbours.

“In the course of the investigation, the police discovered that the deceased (Ms Adekunle) phone was missing. The police, through the use of modern technology, traced the phone to one Olubodun Sanni ‘m’, aged 21 years, a final year student of the same school who is also a neighbour to the deceased in the hostel.
“The recovered phone led to further questioning of the suspect (Mr Sanni), who gave details of what happened in his confessional statement, how he entered the deceased’s room, stabbed her in the chest with a knife, and stole her iPhone XR,” Mr Oladipo said.
Sanni was apprehended based on calls he made via the stolen phone.
“After stealing the phone and killing the young lady. He removed the SIM card and put his own, using it to make calls across. One of the calls was later traced to his parents.
“It was through his parents that we’re able to identify him. When he noticed that our investigation was pointing in his direction, he began to run but we laid ambush for him at the hostel and we were able to arrest him after.
“He confessed in front of his parents how he entered the girl’s room and killed her because of the iPhone,” the police stated.
