The goal scored by Osimhen a few minutes later, which would have extended the lead to 2-0, was deemed offside following a VAR review. Subsequently, Mokoena converted a penalty kick, bringing the score to 1-1, as a result of Alhassan Yusuf’s hard tackle in the Eagles box in the build up to Osimhen’s overruled goal.
The match proceeded to penalties after 120 minutes of football ended 1-1.
The Super Eagles scored four of their penalties while Bafana Bafana missed two of theirs.
This is the first AfCON final for the Super Eagles in 11 years.
