ENUGU, Nigeria (VOICE OF NAIJA)- The Agu Umabor Elites Group has expressed deep concerns over the critical infrastructural neglect in the community, particularly the Agu Umabor – Breme – Eha – Alumona road.
The group during their recently convened Annual General Meeting/Get-Together on 31 December, 2023, raised the alarm, according to Agu Umabor Elites Group’s PRO, Mr. Ugwuanyi Boniface, in a statement.
The group conducted an inspection and discovered that the road, nearly completed by the last administration, has been abandoned, posing a severe threat to the community’s connectivity.
If left unattended, the group regreted that the heavy gully created by the unfinished road project could potentially cut off the community in a matter of months.
The Agu Umabor community, with a population exceeding 100,000, heavily relies on the road, which connects Agu Umabor to Mbu, Ikem, and Enugu. The road’s significance to the agrarian community cannot be overstated.

Furthermore, the Elites Group highlighted the deteriorating condition of the only primary school in the area, showcasing images of the dilapidated state. Despite the community’s efforts and individual contributions of three brand new transformers for rural electrification, the project has also been abandoned.
In light of these challenges, the Agu Umabor Elites Group fervently appeals to the Governor Peter Mbah of Enugu State to intervene promptly.
They emphasize the ecological dangers the community faces with the upcoming rainy season due to the abandoned road project.
The AGM included the election of new officials, with Gil Emeka Abonyi assuming the role of President, Josephat Onah as Vice President, Engr Chris Ogbu returning as Secretary General, and Boniface Ugwuanyi as PRO.
The group expressed gratitude to key figures, including the Parish Priest of St. Theresa’s Catholic Church, Breme – Rev. Fr. Edward C. Okeke, Agu Umabor Town Union President Chris Odo, and Igwe Kelvin Mamah, for their ongoing efforts to address the challenges faced by Agu Umabor in Nsukka LGA, Enugu State.
Mr Boniface, reiterated the urgent need for the Governor’s intervention to avert potential ecological disasters and improve the overall well-being of the community.
