ENUGU, Nigeria (VOICE OF NAIJA)- A single mom and graduate of the Federal University of Technology Akure (FUTA) has shared her touching and remarkable journey of achieving a first-class degree while navigating the challenges of being a mother and facing financial struggles.
The lady who shared her story on her X handle @loveswaggs11, whose real name was not disclosed, said that she got pregnant during her 200 Level, emphasizing that despite lacking financial support from her family, she successfully graduated with academic excellence.
She expressed her pride in her achievements, stating, “My journey wasn’t easy, but it was worth it. I am so proud of my achievements, and I hope my story inspires others who face similar challenges.”
Addressing the stigma associated with pregnancy, she encouraged others facing similar situations not to be limited by societal judgments. She recounted receiving insults and mockery but asserted that her child, once a source of societal judgment, became her greatest joy and motivation.
Surviving the tough academic environment of FUTA, especially in Computer Science, she credited her resilience to God’s support. Despite the challenges, she managed to start two businesses, “Just Popcorn” and “Just Cool Cream,” and invited support for her ventures.
She said, “I am sharing this today for anyone who has been reduced or who’s contemplating giving up because of the stigma associated with pregnancy or any other thing whatsoever. You are not limited. You are not who people say you are. You are what you make yourself.

“I have received all sorts of insults, mockery, condescension, because of my baby. Today, this baby is my biggest source of joy. My happiness knows no boundaries, and all she has brought me is blessings. A reason to keep fighting and exceeding.
“Being in FUTA, and in Computer Science is already tough enough, regardless, I knew no one was coming to help me. All I had was God. He stood by me, and even though I’m tired many times, His strength upheld me, and here I am, TWICE AS TALL.
“In the middle of this, I still started two businesses, first “Just Popcorn” and “Just cool cream,” and it’s been a great journey.
