ENUGU, Nigeria (VOICE OF NAIJA)- In a heart-wrenching incident, Inspector Nelson Abuante, a Nigerian policeman, has tragically ended his own life after mistakenly shooting his colleague, Inspector Monday Gbaramana, during an attempt to arrest a suspected criminal in Rivers State.
The unfortunate event unfolded on a Sunday afternoon in Nyogor-Lueku, Khana Local Government Area, where both officers from Taabaa Division were engaged in the apprehension of a suspected criminal named Akpobari.
The suspect, accused by his mother of committing a crime, resisted arrest, resulting in a confrontation with the police officers.
“In the course of the altercation, Inspector Nelson Abuante mistakenly shot Gbaramana and he sustained serious injuries. So, Abuante and Akere’s mother tried to rush the injured officer to the hospital,” a source privy to the situation was quoted by PUNCH.

During the altercation, Inspector Nelson Abuante inadvertently shot Inspector Gbaramana, causing severe injuries.
In an effort to transport the wounded officer to the hospital, Abuante and Akpobari’s mother encountered an additional setback when their vehicle ran out of petrol en route.
Tragically, Inspector Monday Gbaramana succumbed to his injuries before reaching medical help.
Distraught by the loss of his colleague, Abuante, upon discovering Gbaramana’s demise, took his own life with a gunshot.
The bodies of the two officers have been placed in the mortuary for autopsy, shedding light on the unfortunate sequence of events.
Grace Iringe-Koko, the Police Public Relations Officer in Rivers, confirmed the incident and stated that investigations are underway to uncover the full details of the tragic incident.
“This incident happened, and we are investigating to unravel what really happened,” said Iringe-Koko.
The community and law enforcement are left grappling with the aftermath of this sorrowful incident.
