ENUGU, Nigeria (VOICE OF NAIJA) – The Enugu State Government announced on Friday that it plans to allocate one hundred and seventy-eight million Naira, (N178,000,000.00), towards empowering indigent and vulnerable individuals in the state for the upcoming year, 2024.
This significant investment in the welfare of the people was revealed by Dr. Roberts Ozongwu, the Commissioner for Budget and Economic Planning, during a breakdown of the 2024 budget proposal presented by Governor Peter Mbah earlier this week.
In addition to this empowerment initiative, the government has also allocated N700 million to procure solar energy as an alternative power source for the Enugu State House of Assembly. This demonstrates their commitment to sustainable and clean energy solutions.

Furthermore, a substantial amount of N7.2 billion has been set aside for the purchase of official and security vehicles for the Governor’s office. The government also plans to allocate N200 million for security equipment and N40 million to acquire 20 drones for aerial surveillance at the office of the governor.
To enhance infrastructure development, the budget includes provisions for the construction of over 1,250 kilometers of roads across the state. The funds required for these projects will be sourced through efficient financial management, plugging revenue leaks, and the allocation of funds from the federation accounts.
Dr. Ozongwu emphasized the importance of prudent management of public funds and the elimination of revenue leakages in the state’s internally generated revenue (IGR) through the compulsory use of the pay direct system in all government transactions. The government also aims to create an inventor-friendly environment to encourage economic growth and innovation.
