ENUGU, Nigeria (VOICE OF NAIJA) – The Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPCL) has officially confirmed a fire incident at the Warri Refinery and Petrochemical Company Limited.
The incident took place on the afternoon of Friday, October 20 but was swiftly contained without causing significant damage.
In a statement issued by NNPCL, it was emphasized that the fire resulted from welding activities being carried out at the top of the cooling tower.
Fortunately, the incident will not disrupt the ongoing rehabilitation efforts at the refinery, and the project’s delivery schedule remains unaffected.

The statement read, “This afternoon, at about 15:02hrs, there was a minor fire incident at the cooling tower of Warri Refinery and Petrochemical Company Limited.
“The fire, which occurred as a result of ongoing welding activity at the top of the cooling tower, will not affect the refinery rehabilitation project delivery schedule.”
Meanwhile, the NNPC Limited’s safety officers stationed at the refinery promptly responded to the situation and successfully extinguished the fire by 15:30hrs.
As a result, normal operations have been fully restored, assuring that the refinery rehabilitation efforts will continue without delay.
