HATFIELD, United Kingdom (VOICE OF NAIJA) – Former Presidential aide Reno Omokri has praised the Lagos State Commissioner of Police Idowu Owohunwa for his “articulateness, professionalism, and composure” and for the “speed and thoroughness displayed by the Nigerian Police Force in the investigation of the late singer, Ilerioluwa Aloba aka Mohbad.
A report was released on Friday, 6 October, after a closely watched investigation that prompted Aloba’s body to be exhumed for an autopsy as authorities searched for answers to what killed the 27-year-old on 12 September.
Widely known as one of Nigeria’s fastest-rising young pop stars, Aloba’s death was confirmed at a Lagos hospital in unclear circumstances. Questions about the cause of his death prompted protests, rallies and grief across the West African nation.
His death also drew many to his songs, which were largely about his childhood and quest for a better life.

Outrage over the singer’s death was directed at Naira Marley, his former record label boss currently on trial in Nigeria for alleged internet fraud.
Marley was accused of mistreating Aloba, which he denied. He remains in police custody as one of the suspects in the case, police said.
According to the investigation report, doses of some drugs administered to the singer by an auxiliary nurse named Feyisayo Ogedengbe, “immediately and directly triggered the reactions (including vomiting, goose bumps, convulsion) that eventually resulted in the singer’s death”.
The nurse has been named as a principal suspect in the sudden death of the singer, according to Owohunwu.
Reacting to the report, Omokri, a former aide to ex-president Goodluck Jonathan, took to his Instagram to air his opinion.
He said, “I watched the Lagos State Commissioner of Police, Idowu Owohunwa, update the public on the investigations into the circumstances leading to the death of Ilerioluwa Oladimeji Aloba, aka MohBad.
“I must say that his articulateness, professionalism, and composure impressed me. And not just his conduct but the speed and thoroughness displayed by the Nigerian Police Force in this episode have been remarkable.
“The alacrity of the Lagos Command of the Nigerian Police in the exhumation, autopsy and investigations leading to the arrest of the prime suspect, Feyisayo Ogedemgbe, an unregistered nurse, along with others now in custody, has shown that Nigeria could happen to us in positive ways. A bad thing happened, but it brought out the best in us, which, in my book, is praiseworthy.
“We should not only condemn our institutions and personnel. When they do well, let us equally praise them. I am yet to see an institution or individual that will not perform better when they are praised.
“May God bless the Nigerian People.”
