HATFIELD, United Kingdom (VOICE OF NAIJA) The sudden collapse of Balarabe Abbas, a ministerial nominee from Kaduna State, sent waves of concern across the upper chamber on Wednesday, 4 October.
Balarabe collapsed while he was introducing himself to the Senators during the screening process.
The Senate President Godswill Akpabio swiftly called for water, ‘Get him water, sugar. Call Dr. Musa’ and the session was promptly adjourned.
Following the incident, Akpabio convened a closed-door session.
Abbas Balarabe Lawal, born on February 5, 1958, hails from the Kachia Local Government in Kaduna State. He holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Political Science from Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria (1978-1981), and an M.Sc in Political Science from the same university (1984-1986).

Abbas was nominated as a replacement for the former Kaduna State governor Nasir El-Rufai.
Abbas’s name was read alongside Dr Jamila Ibrahaim and Ayodele Olawande as Minister of Youths and Minister of State for Youths respectively who were earlier nominated by the president.
Abbas, a former Secretary to the Kaduna State government, in April, was appointed to lead a 65-man transition committee ahead of the swearing-in of Uba Sani.
The President had earlier sent 48 nominees to the Senate who passed 45 as ministers.
