LAGOS, Nigeria (VOICE OF NAIJA) Lionel Messi has reportedly decided that his playing career will conclude not in Miami or Barcelona but at his hometown club, Newell’s Old Boys, in Argentina.

His Inter Miami contract, set to expire in 2025, includes an option for an additional year.

However, according to El Nacional, Messi intends to retire in his native Argentina, making a sentimental return to where his football journey began.

After leaving Barcelona in 2021 and rejecting a return to Camp Nou when he left Paris Saint-Germain, the prospect of a nostalgic comeback to Barcelona appears unlikely.

Despite recently being sidelined by injury, Messi scored ten goals in his first seven matches for David Beckham’s Miami franchise.

“Although he may not return to actively play for Barcelona, plans are in place for him to have a farewell match with the club.”
