Yobe LG Chairperson Demolishes 39 Houses for Illicit Dancing, Alcohol Sale

LAGOS, Nigeria (VOICE OF NAIJA)- Fika Local Government Area in Yobe State has secured the demolition of 140 rooms in 39 houses for selling alcohol and involvement in illicit dancing in Ngalda village. 

The demolition, which was led by the Chairperson of Fika LGA, Hajiya Halima Kyari Joda, followed the prosecution of 92 suspects arrested in the houses in August, 2023.

Spokesman for the LG, Abubakar Ayuba Idris, confirmed the development in a statement on Monday.

“Recall, on 1st August, the joint operation made up of NSCDC, JTF, DSS, NPF, Hisbah and vigilantes led by the council chairman confiscated and destroyed cartons of alcohol and banned Gala centres in Ngalda,” he said. 

“After the prosecution of the suspects, the council chairman today led the Hisbah Islamic group and other security agencies into Ngalda town and demolished over 140 rooms across 39 houses of Gala recreational houses, an alcohol base, after the rising of criminal activities being caused by the activities of alcohol bases and Gala joints in the town,” the statement read.
