IBADAN, Nigeria (VOICE OF NAIJA) – A Lagos-based lawyer, and Managing Partner at FOLEGAL, Festus Ogun, seeks a coroner’s inquest into the questionable death of singer, Promise Oladimeji Aloba, popularly known as Mohbad.

He petitioned the Attorney General and Commissioner for Justice in Lagos State, Mr Lawal Pedro SAN, and the State Chief Coroner, Justice Mojisola Dada, in two separate letters.

The fast rising singer known for his hit track KPK, died on Tuesday, 12 September, aged 27.

In two separate letters, Ogun noted that Mohbad’s death seemed unnatural since it was made public, adding that there were videos on social media where the singer was seen agonising the pain he had experienced at the hands of certain individuals.

He urged the state government to exhume Mohbad’s corpse to determine the cause of his death.

“Immediately the news of his demise became public; strong reports were indicating that Mohbad’s sudden demise was not natural. Videos were circulating on social media where Mohbad was seen agonising and lamenting the pains he had gone through at the hands of some individuals.

“There are equally, credible reports suggesting that Mohbad was persistently bullied, harassed, tortured, assaulted and intimidated by some elements who tormented him and his bright musical career even until his death.

“Curiously, those found last with him before and at the point of death cannot explain the circumstances and cause of his death. The stories being told are contradictory and not convincing.

“As if that was not enough. Mohbad, a Christian, was hurriedly buried on the 13th of September, 2023, in a manner that calls for suspicion and concern.

“Clearly, there are reasons to believe that the cause of Mohbad’s death was unnatural and suspicious.

“In line with Sections 14 and 15 of the Coroner’s Systems Law of Lagos State, we request a coroner’s inquest to investigate and determine the cause and circumstances of Mohbad’s death.

“Importantly, we humbly request that you exercise the power under Section 17 of the Coroner’s System Law to order exhumation of his body for the Chief Medical Examiner to anatomically determine the cause of his death,” the letters read.

Ogun also urged the government to publicise its findings and bring anyone culpable in Mohbad’s death to book.
