ENUGU, Nigeria (VOICE OF NAIJA)- A towering 20-story hotel, currently under construction in Asaba, Delta State, suffered a catastrophic collapse on Thursday evening, putting eight individuals in a life-threatening situation.
The colossal hotel complex, valued at several billion naira, is situated directly across from the Delta Mall in Asaba, near the renowned Shoprite establishment.
This ambitious project is the brainchild of the esteemed billionaire entrepreneur and founder of Rain Oil Group, Chief Gabriel Ogbechie.
According to a witness on the scene, Onyinye Okei, the catastrophe unfolded suddenly, accompanied by a deafening roar, catching the construction workers off guard.

Tragically, eight individuals were left with injuries, necessitating their immediate transport to a medical facility, courtesy of their concerned colleagues.
In the aftermath of the calamity, Mr Michael Anoka, the State Commissioner for Urban Renewal, attributed the collapse to structural flaws within the building. Fortunately, there were no reported casualties.
Anoka emphasized, “The Ministry is currently conducting an in-depth investigation. The government has already initiated proactive measures, as evidenced by the cordoning off of the premises. We intend to compile a comprehensive report detailing the events of today once our investigation is complete.”
He further reassured the public, urging calm, and added, “The government had already taken precautionary steps prior to today’s incident, with the aim of preventing such occurrences.”
The scene of the incident remains secured by officials from the State Emergency Management Agency and dedicated security personnel.
