LAGOS, Nigeria (VOICE OF NAIJA) – A Portuguese town, São Lourenco do Bairro, has been flooded with wine after two tanks of 2.2million litres of red wine accidentally spilled down a street.
The two tanks of spilled wine, owned by Levira Distillery, Portugal, resulted into a fast-moving river which flowed down a steep hill in the town, near the coast of Portugal.
According to reports, the level of the spill triggered local officials to send an environmental alert and were forced to divert the wine to stop it from contaminating the nearby Certima River.

Anadia Fire Department reportedly blocked off the flood and diverted it away from the river, where it flowed into a field, reports local media.
Firefighters disclosed that a basement in a home near the distillery was flooded with wine.
Levira has since apologised, and said it later dredged the wine-soaked land, according to local media.
“We assume full responsibility for the costs associated with cleaning and repairing the damage, having teams available to do so immediately.
“We are committed to resolving this situation as quickly as possible,” Levira noted.
