ENUGU, Nigeria (VOICE OF NAIJA) – The remarkable achievement of Ernest Ifeanyichukwu Ofoama, who secured the highest score in the 2023 Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME) in Enugu State, has earned him commendation from Governor Peter Mbah.
During a reception held at the Government House in Enugu, Governor Mbah congratulated the 18-year-old student for his exceptional academic performance, expressing the state’s pride in his accomplishment.
Governor Mbah assured that the state administration would continue to offer support to Master Ofoama, both in terms of academic pursuits and general well-being, to facilitate the realization of his career aspirations.
Highlighting the government’s commitment to enhancing education, Governor Mbah reiterated plans to modernize public schools by integrating technology and innovation into academic curricula. These enhancements include multimedia software, simulations, interactive maps, augmented reality, artificial intelligence, and 3D graphics, all aimed at facilitating effective learning.

Characterizing Ofoama as a role model and a source of inspiration, Governor Mbah encouraged fellow students to emulate his dedication to hard work, resilience, and innovation. He reaffirmed the government’s dedication to fostering a conducive learning environment, complete with various incentives to stimulate learning activities statewide.
Master Ofoama, recipient of the National Scholarship Programme on Tertiary Education (NAPS) from RHI, expressed his gratitude for the recognition bestowed upon him by both the Governor and the First Lady. He urged fellow students to focus on their studies and shun negative influences, wishing them academic success and a promising future.
A native of Awha-Imezi in Ezeagu Local Government Area of the State, Master Ernest Ifeanyichukwu Ofoama achieved an impressive score of 347 in the UTME, securing the highest rank in Enugu.
His accomplishment also earned him the prestigious scholarship award from Enugu’s First Lady, Mrs Nkechiyere Mbah, a distinction granted to top scorers from all 36 states and the Federal Capital Territory, Abuja.

To honor his achievement, Enugu First Lady announced a scholarship of ₦1 million along with additional incentives for Master Ofoama to pursue his desired university course.
This scholarship will be provided through her foundation, the Renewed Hope Initiative (RHI) programme.
A formal letter addressed to Mrs. Nkechinyere, the wife of Enugu State Governor, conveyed details about the scholarship award.
The presentation ceremony for the scholarship grant is scheduled to occur at the Presidential Villa in Abuja on Saturday, 26 August, 2023.
