ENUGU, Nigeria (VOICE OF NAIJA)- The United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF) has announced its collaboration with the Enugu State Government to drive the realization of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
During an event at the Government House in Enugu, Dr. Jane Bevan, the Chief of Water, Sanitation, and Hygiene at UNICEF Nigeria, confirmed the organization’s commitment to partnering with Enugu State.
The occasion also marked the presentation of UNICEF’s WASH (Water, Sanitation, and Hygiene) Master Plan to Governor Peter Mbah.
Impressed by Governor Peter Mbah’s dedication and political resolve to execute SDGs initiatives, Dr. Jane Bevan expressed contentment and affirmed UNICEF’s readiness to work closely with the state government to achieve their common goals.
In a press statement, Dr. Bevan said: “Today, our purpose is to unveil an initial outline of the master plan aimed at achieving the SDGs by 2030.

“I think that with the commitment and dedication that the governor has demonstrated to me today, I really think that Enugu is on the right track and could definitely achieve this.
“There are so many different elements that will need to come together to make water, sanitation, and hygiene happen in the state; but I think the governor has got a strong political will and he can make it happen.”
Governor Mbah, while appreciating the support of UNICEF so far, said his administration had since inauguration declared a state of emergency on water provision because of the importance of water to life.
“We made a promise to our people that in 180 days from our swearing-in, we will provide water regularly in our metropolis and it is 102 days left. I am pleased to inform you that with what we have on the ground, we are going to beat that deadline,” he said.
