LAGOS, Nigeria (VOICE OF NAIJA) Mason Greenwood’s future will not be decided upon by Manchester United until early September, thus, the announcement of that decision is expected to be postponed.
Since his arrest in connection with audio and pictures of an alleged sexual assault posted on social media in January 2022, Greenwood has been on leave from United.
The striker was accused of attempting to rape a victim, using coercive or controlling behavior, and assault resulting in serious bodily harm in October 2022. All accusations were refuted by Greenwood.
The Crown Prosecution Service dismissed every accusation against him in February.
According to a statement, “there was no longer a realistic prospect of conviction” because of the departure of important witnesses and newly discovered evidence.

United had originally wanted to decide before the start of the season, but last week they opted to postpone the announcement so they could consult the women’s team, some of whom are still competing at the Women’s World Cup.
The Athletic said that the choice may not be made until the following international break, which starts on September 4—the day after United’s match against Arsenal.
Also, the club wishes to share the results of their internal inquiry with important parties, including United’s women’s squad and fan advisory board, which is why there is a delay.
Following news of the hold-up, numerous social media users petitioned United England women’s players Mary Earps, Ella Toone, and Katie Zelem to permit Greenwood to be reintegrated into the team.
Monday marks the start of United’s Premier League campaign at home against Wolves, and a group of supporters is organizing a demonstration outside Old Trafford prior to kickoff to urge that the club not reintegrate the 21-year-old.
