LAGOS, Nigeria (VOICE OF NAIJA) – Harry Maguire is apparently close to leaving Manchester United after a deal in principle has reportedly been agreed with West Ham to buy him for £30 million.
Earlier in the transfer season, West Ham’s £20 million ($25.5 million) and £30 million ($38.2 million) bids for Manchester United center-back Harry Maguire and his teammate Scott McTominay, respectively, were both turned down.
According to Sky Sports writer Dharmesh Sheth, the two parties have reached an agreement in principle after submitting an enhanced £30 million offer for the 30-year-old defender.
Maguire’s future looks to be outside of Old Trafford after joining United from Leicester City in 2019 for a world-record £80 million ($101.9 million).
The England international may now be moving on to a fresh challenge at West Ham, despite having previously stated that he is willing to stay and compete for his position in Erik ten Hag’s team.
Bruno Fernandes took over as club captain from Harry Maguire, and Maguire is presently third on United’s defensive depth chart behind Raphael Varane and Lisandro Martinez.

The former Foxes centre-back, whose United contract expires in 2025, also contributed to Athletic Club’s goal in United’s last preseason game on Sunday.
West Ham’s Premier League campaign gets underway against Bournemouth on Saturday, 12 August, while United’s campaign gets underway against Wolves on Monday, 14 August.
The Hammers want to finalize a deal as soon as possible, so it is unclear which team Maguire would join.
