LAGOS, Nigeria (VOICE OF Naija) – Arsenal defeated Manchester City 4-1 on penalties to win the Community Shield after Leandro Trossard had equalized in the 101st minute of regulation.
Kevin De Bruyne, who was returning from injury, hit the crossbar with his attempt, and Rodri had his attempt saved after Trossard’s last-ditch effort deflected in off Manuel Akanji to force penalties.
To provide a spirit-boosting run for the Gunners in the season opener, Martin Odegaard, Trossard, Bukayo Saka, and Fabio Vieira all scored from a distance of 12 yards.
Throughout the entire 90 minutes, Arsenal showed a lot of promise, and after the new acquisition, Kai Havertz wasted two wonderful chances; they should have been in the lead at halftime.
Additionally, fellow arrivals Jurrien Timber and £105 million star Declan Rice put in strong displays.

Goalkeeper Aaron Ramsdale was sharp late in the game to keep them in the game and set up the thrilling conclusion.
21-year-old Palmer scored the game’s first goal following a fantastic break by Phil Foden, and he was helpless to stop it. Palmer, the winner of the England U21 Euros, appears to be in for a huge season.
But Arsenal, who was beaten by City for the Premier League title last season, fought until the very end to earn their reward.
They are hoping that this will serve as the impetus for them to engage Pep Guardiola’s team in a new competition for the top prizes that will be awarded at the other end of the season.
