LAAGOS, Nigeria (VOICE OF NAIJA) – Elon Musk has reportedly revealed plans to replace the bird-shaped emblem for the microblogging service Twitter with an X.

Musk’s move would be the most recent in a slew of contentious changes made to the social media site since he took control of it in October after paying $44 billion for it.

He said the plans to replace the blue bird emblem with the X logo will be done on Monday in a series of tweets.

“And soon we shall bid adieu to the Twitter brand and, gradually, all the birds,” Musk tweeted.

In order to better represent his ambition of building ‘X,’ the all-encompassing app with social networking and payment features akin to China’s WeChat, Musk had changed the company’s formal name in April to X Holdings Corp, after his business X.com.

The debut of the X brand was announced on Sunday by Twitter CEO Linda Yaccarino.

Ms Yaccarino tweeted, “It is an exceptionally rare thing – in life or business – that you get a second chance to make another big impression.

“Twitter made one massive impression and changed the way we communicate. Now, X will go further, transforming the global town square.”

She explained that the new logo would be “centred in audio, video, messaging, payments/banking” and would be a “global marketplace for ideas, goods, services, and opportunities.”

Musk recently disclosed that the site continued to be cashflow-negative with a significant debt load after losing half of its advertising income, despite firing half of the company’s employees following the takeover.
