ENUGU, Nigeria (VOICE OF NAIJA) – President Bola Tinubu has returned to Abuja after a successful outing at the 5th Mid-Year Coordination Meeting of the African Union, in Nairobi, Kenya.
On his arrival, he was received by the Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF), Senator George Akume, Femi Gbajabiamila, Chief of Staff to Nigeria’s President, Imo State Governor Hope Uzodimma and Former Kano State Governor Dr Abdullahi Umar Ganduje.
Voiceofnaija.ng had reported that President Tinubu departed Abuja for Nairobi Kenya, to attain African Union meeting, where he participated in the Fifth Mid-Year Coordination Meeting of the African Union, the Regional Economic Communities, the Regional Mechanisms and the African Union Member States.
Tinubu who is also the Chairperson of Economic Community OF West African States (ECOWAS), joined Heads of State and Government, Foreign Ministers of the AU Member-States, and high-level dignitaries at the mid-year meeting which took place on Sunday, 16 July.

The 5th MYCM, which is convening under the AU’s theme for 2023 christened “Acceleration of African Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA) Implementation,” was said to have brought together the Bureau of the AU Assembly, comprising the Heads of State and Government from Comoros, Botswana, Burundi, and Senegal, as well as the leaders of the eight RECs.
The regional economic communities include ECOWAS chaired by Nigeria, the East African Community (EAC), the Intergovernmental Authority on Development (IGAD), the Common Market for Eastern and Southern Africa (COMESA), the Southern African Development Community (SADC), the Community of Sahel–Saharan States (CEN SAD), the Arab Maghreb Union (UMA), and the Economic Community of Central African States (ECCAS).
His return coincides with the crisis presently rocking his All Progressives Congress (APC) party, with the resignation of National Chairman and Secretary, Senators Abdullahi Adamu and Iyiola Omisore.
The Nigerian President is expected to wade into the issues currently bedeviling the party in recent times.
