Nigerians have reacted to the letter President Bola Ahmed Tinubu wrote to the House of Representatives, requesting the approval of N500 billion to cushion the effects of fuel subsidy removal.
Essentially, the President is seeking the amendment of the 2022 supplementary appropriation act to accommodate the funds.
Speaker of the House, Tajudeen Abbas read the letter of the Presidentās request at Wednesdayās plenary.
Titled āRequest for the amendment of the 2022 appropriation actā, the letter reads in part: āI write to request the approval of the House of Representatives an amendment of the 2022 appropriation act in accordance with the law.
āThe request has become necessary in other to source funds to provide necessary palliatives to cushion the effect of the recent removal of fuel subsidy in Nigeria.
āThe sum of N500 billion only has been extracted from the 2022 appropriation act of N819.536 for the provision of palliatives to Nigerians to cushion the effect of fuel subsidy removal. I expect that the House will speedily consider the requestā.
Abbas however added that the House will consider the Presidentās request at plenary on Thursday.
Nigerians have been reacting to the development with many condemning the letter and Tinubu.

A netizen said: “Oga Ndi Oga If this is exactly how the letter was written, ego is at work here.A wise man who goes through this letter will surely understand one pertinent thing here.The executive is trying to coerce the N.Assembly.”
“Can’t federal government invest the money they borrow instead,” one user who isn’t pleased with the report queried.
Another netizen commented: “6 month never reach ā¦.em dey ask for palliative for who. God abeg , speed up make i carry my family comot for that country make i know sey nothing dey to think of nigeria. Oga who una epp for the last year covid, na now you say let the poor breeth you wan thief there monie take breath.

One user reacted and said: “I shake my head for this our wicked so-called leaders. Just few months ago Buhari collected $800m from world Bank for palliative to cushion the effect of fuel subsidy removal. Now Agbado wan collect him.”
Another user on his part said: “This is a man that just came back from the West with an approved 500m dollar loan to Nigeria. He has pocketed that one and is going for the next. Make una brace up, the next 8 yrs in Nigeria would be worse.”
