LAGOS, Nigeria (VOICE OF NAIJA)-The United Nations is hosting a worldwide conference to explore the possibilities of artificial intelligence and harness its potential to advance humanity.
As AI technology advances faster than its ability to define its bounds, the UN intends to present a clear roadmap for how to handle the situation in the future.
Around 3,000 professionals from businesses like Microsoft and Amazon as well as from universities and international organizations will gather at the “AI for Good Global Summit” being hosted in Geneva on Thursday and Friday in an effort to create frameworks for addressing AI.
Doreen Bogdan-Martin, chief of the UN’s information and communications technology agency that organized the conference, noted that “this technology is moving quickly.”
“It’s a real opportunity for the world’s leading voices on AI to come together on the global stage and to address governance issues,” she told reporters.

“Doing nothing is not an option. Humanity is dependent upon it. So we have to engage and try and ensure a responsible future with AI.”
She stated that the conference would look at potential frameworks and restrictions to enable responsible AI use.
Participants on the list include Iker Casillas, a former captain of Spain’s national football team who suffered a heart attack in 2019, Werner Vogels, the chief technical officer of Amazon, Lila Ibrahim, and the chief operating officer of Google DeepMind.
They will be accompanied by a large number of robots, including many humanoids including Desdemona, a humanoid rock singer, Ai-Da, the first ultra-realistic robot artist, Ameca, the most lifelike robot in the world, and Grace, the most sophisticated healthcare robot.
