LAGOS, Nigeria (VOICE OF NAIJA) – Twitter announced in a tweet that TweetDeck will soon need users to be verified on Twitter in order to use it and the modification will become effective in 30 days.
It’s unclear whether Twitter will charge customers for both the new and old TweetDeck versions. Attempts to contact Twitter for comment were not immediately answered.
Twitter, which has struggled to maintain advertising revenue under billionaire Elon Musk’s ownership, might benefit financially from charging for TweetDeck, a popular tool used by businesses and news organizations to readily monitor content that was previously free.

The action was taken shortly after Musk announced that both verified and unverified users would be limited in the number of posts they could view each day “to address extreme levels of data scraping & system manipulation.”
His decision drew a ferocious outcry from Twitter users, and advertising experts predicted that it would hurt the position of the newly appointed CEO, Linda Yaccarino, who took over the position last month.
For account verification, individuals must pay $8 (about Rs. 700) per month, while businesses must pay $1,000 (approximately Rs. 7,000) each month.
