LAGOS, Nigeria (VOICE OF NAIJA)-Manchester City have agreed a fee with Chelsea to sign midfielder Mateo Kovacic to become the first new arrival through the door at the Etihad this summer.

Chelsea will buy Mateo Kovacic, a midfielder, for a reported £25 million, with City agreeing to pay a further £5 million in future add-ons.

Kovacic will soon undergo a medical exam at the City Football Academy and join up with his new teammates in time for the team’s preseason trip of South Korea and Japan.

The former Real Madrid midfielder has extensive Premier League and Champions League experience and played in 221 matches during his five years at Chelsea.

Kovacic has long been a favorite of Pep Guardiola, who believes that his adaptability in the middle of the field is perfect for his City team.

This season, the Etihad will likely need to reinforce in the midfield. Ilkay Gundogan’s contract with City is also up for renewal as of next week, but he is still considering a signing offer from Barcelona.

Bernardo Silva, who is being pursued by Barcelona and Paris Saint-Germain and is open to the prospect of a fresh challenge outside of the Etihad, may also leave the club.

Jude Bellingham was City’s main midfield target, but since the teenager signed with Real, the Blues have moved rapidly to bolster their midfield.
