LAGOS, Nigeria (VOICE OF NAIJA) – Residents of Greenland community in Ajaokuta Local Government Area of Kogi State have been thrown into confusion after gunmen succeeded in abducting three members of one family.

Punch gathered that the incident happened around 9pm when the armed men invaded the community located behind the 500 Housing Estate, Ganaja in the said area.

An eyewitness, who pleaded anonymity for fear of victimization, said the armed men arrived at the community in a Sienna vehicle, adding that the suspects shot indiscriminately while trying to kidnap a retired security officer believed to be their prime target.

The Chairman of the Greenland community, Paul Atabor, confirmed the incident on 7 June.

Atabor explained that the incident has been reported to the ‘C’ Division of the Nigeria Police Force and the Department of State Services.

He added that the community, had further received a notice from the suspected kidnappers that they will return to kidnap more residents.

“Greenland community, get ready for us, we are coming to get someone,” the letter read.

One of the family members of the kidnap victims in an interview with Punch Metro, said that the kidnappers had reached out to the family members, demanding ransom.

The source did not, however, disclose the amount being demanded by the kidnappers.

When contacted, the state Police Public Relations Officer, SP William Aya, said the command headquarters was yet to be briefed about the incident, promising to revert once he got detailed information about the incident from the Divisional Police Officer of the ‘C’ Division.
