Labour Party has likened President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s pronouncement of fuel subsidy removal to the emergence of an Egyptian Pharaoh, during the biblical era, who tasked the people.
This was contained in a statement signed by the party’s Acting National Publicity Secretary, Pastor Obiora Ifoh.
“As we speak now the queues are back again and Nigerians will, as was the case in the previous administration begin to keep vigils in the filling station to get just a few litres of petrol.
“As expected, commercial transporters have hiked their trip fares across the country in response to the developments. While product hawkers are once more the king of the jungle.
“This scenario easily reminds one of the story of a certain Pharaoh who on assumption of throne empowered his task-masters to tripled the daily tasks of the Jews. What a way to announce once emergence as the sheriff in town. President Tinubu’s first executive proclamation was such that it is purposed to inflict pains on Nigerians,” the statement partly read.

Meanwhile, President Bola Tinubu stated that the fuel subsidy removal announcement he made during his inaugural speech on Monday would not take effect immediately.
Tinubu, through a statement released by the Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Media Centre, noted that Nigerians should not resort to panic-buying, which had ensued due to his speech.
Fuel queues surfaced immediately after Tinubu made his speech on Monday following his inauguration, with fuel prices going up as high as N350 per litre in the major cities of Lagos, Abuja, Port Harcourt and other locations.
Several interest and civic groups have called on Tinubu not to begin his administration on a draconian note for Nigerians but should be circumspect on the fuel subsidy removal.
In a tweet, Tinubu, through his media centre, said the fuel subsidy removal was not immediate but a process that had been on.
