Dr. Alex Otti of the Labour Party has been sworn in as the new Governor of Abia State as the tenure of Okezie Ikpeazu ends in the State.
Otti took his oath of office at midday during the inauguration held at the Umuahia Township Stadium.
He was sworn in by the Abia Chief Judge, Hon. Justice Lilian Abai, with Otti ‘s deputy, Ikechi Valentine Emetu present.
Peter Obi was represented by the vice presidential candidate, Yusuf Baba Ahmed.
Okezie Ikpeazu had earlier presented his handover notes and Abia Long Term Development and Budgetary Document for 2023, to the incoming Governor-elect, Dr Alex Otti.

The brief handover ceremony took place at about 9.45 am at the Banquet Hall of the Government House, Umuahia before Otto was sworn in as the Governor.
The ex-Governor, represented by the outgoing Secretary to the State Government, Chris Ezem, said that the documents were critical to governance and would serve as essential tools for piloting the affairs of the State.
He said that the documents would assist the incoming administration to navigate and resolve issues that could hinder good governance and economic advancement in the state.
Responding, Otti said that the documents would be studied and the “relevant and appropriate recommendations” contained in them would be utilized by his administration.
