Nigerians have reacted to the photos of a young girl rescued by Danish aid worker, Anja Ringgren Loven and a team member David Emmanuel Umem, 9 years after she was branded a witch.

Mary was tortured and abandoned half naked in Akwa Ibom state.

They found her half naked in a bush where she was hiding because the local villagers wanted to kill her.

“When we found her she had cuts and bruises from an iron all over her body. She had been tortured and abused.

“Now more than 9 years after we rescued Mary she just wrote the JAMB ( Nigeria’s official entrance examination board for students seeking admission to university ) and hopefully her score will take her to study law after the summer,” she wrote on Facebook alongside pictures of the girl.

Nigerians have been reacting to Loven’s post with many bashing the family for abandonment.

A netizen, Alhaji Gbasgbos said: “Small time now when she’s a force to reckon with her family members would be asking for forgiveness and would want to associate with her but they are nowhere to be found now. God bless those who rescued her.”

Another netizen appreciates Love for what she did.

“Slay woman. Thank you for what you do. No child is a witch. All those lies they perpetrated killing innocent children. A child will have adhd…they will say they are witches….smh”

“This is humanity. May continue to prosper her and her family,” wrote another netizen.

One user said: “This Danish woman deserves all the support she is getting. na better NGO she be… I don dey see her results in my early 20s and now more than 10 years later, she still dey show all workings while some just dey siphon money through NGOs and encouraging Almajiri.”

“I don’t know why the Government cannot support this woman to help more children. The money wasted on Super Eagles that keeps losing can go into helping vulnerable children. Billions in Super Eagles with nothing to show for it,” another one said.
