LAGOS, Nigeria (VOICE OF NAIJA)- A 39-year-old man, Chukwuebuka Ekwueme, has been remanded at the Kirikiri Correctional Centre by an Ogba Magistrates’ Court sitting, Lagos, for allegedly attempting to kill a police inspector, Oche Joseph, by causing grievous bodily harm on him.
Recall that voicenaija.ng reported that Ekwueme allegedly inflicted fatal injuries on Joseph by using a machete to hit him on his head and right hand in the Oshodi area of Lagos State.
The incident occurred after an earlier misunderstanding between the suspect and victim.
The suspect, who is known for threatening multiple Police Officers, is a renowned notorious cultist in the Mafoluku area of Oshodi in Lagos State.
Magistrate Patricia Ojeh made the remand order after the defendant, who is facing one charge of attempted murder, preferred against him by the police was arraigned.
The police prosecutor, Inspector Felicia Okwu, told the court that the defendant committed the offence on 17 April, 2023.
Tendering the remand application, Inspector Felicia revealed to the court that while in custody of the police during investigation, the defendant had portrayed an unruly character with no form of remorse for his actions.
According to the Mrs Okwu, the offence committed is punishable under Section 230(a) (b) of the Criminal Law of Lagos State 2015.
The charge read: “That you, Chukwuebuka Ekwueme, on April 17, 2023, around 10.05am at Makinde Police Station, Mafokuku, Oshodi in the Ikeja Magisterial District did attempt to murder one Inspector Oche Joseph by using a machete to inflict fatal injuries on the back of his head and right hand, causing him grievous bodily harm and thereby committed an offence contrary to Section 230(a) (b) Lagos State of Nigeria, 2015.”
Magistrate Ojeh ordered the prosecutor to send duplicate case files to the Director of Public Prosecution for legal advice.
The case was adjourned till 25 May for trial.
