IBADAN, Nigeria (VOICE OF NAIJA) – Nigerians have reacted to Labour Party presidential candidate, Peter Obi’s call on President Muhammadu Buhari-led government to rescue the 4000 Nigerians trapped in Sudan.

The stranded Nigerians who are mostly Northerners are trapped as a result of the clash between forces loyal to Sudan’s army chief, Abdel Fattah al-Burhan, and his deputy, Mohamed Hamdan Daglo, who commands the paramilitary Rapid Support Forces (RSF).

The Federal Government had said it was risky to evacuate Nigerian nationals in Sudan as a result of the tense situation in the country.

However, Obi in a series of tweets on Sunday, said it is the responsibility of the Federal Government to rescue the Nigerians trapped in Sudan.

“I’m sad and concerned by the reports that Nigerians trapped in Sudan have not been evacuated. While we understand the extreme challenges in Sudan, we deeply implore the Federal Government of Nigeria to expedite all efforts to rescue about 4000 Nigerians that are mostly students.

“Since it is the statutory responsibility of FGN to protect Nigerians at home in Nigeria and abroad, it is important that we attend to such issues with more deserving proactiveness and commitment as the life of every Nigerian is sacred and important.

“A New Nigeria is really imperative and Possible,” he tweeted.

Reacting to his tweets, a Nigerian on the social media platform @Jaypeegeneral said: “Nigeria’s biggest problem is leadership failure. —Peter Obi.

“Our leaders don’t care about us. They have again left Nigerians citizens stranded in Sudan😭

“We need Peter Obi. The Judiciary should do the needful and declare you winner💯”

@LawrenceOkoroPG summarized Obi’s tweets in pidgin. He wrote: “Senior Man Peter Obi say make Bubu and he people run shows sharply make dem discharge our people wey go acada for Sudan.

“Senior man say make the govt allow shame dey catch dem small small.”

“Meanwhile Buhari doesnt see this as his problem. Somewhere out there using toothpick, preparing for farm life in another country NOT caring about Nigerians. SMH,” @NaijaMusings tweeted. While @ninacool22 said: “Someone that has strikes out BEING PRESIDENT and BEING PETROLEUM MINISTER from his 🪣 📝”
