LAGOS, Nigeria (VOICE OF NAIJA)- A building collapse has reportedly killed a young lady, Joy Thomas, leaving a mother and her son injured in Lade Village, Patigi Local Government Area of Kwara State.
It was gathered that the incident took place around 10 pm on 9 April, when the deceased and other victims fell asleep in their balcony, while taking fresh air.
According to a member of the community, in a statement giving to journalists, the incident had thrown the community and families into mourning.
“The deceased, Joy and other victims were sleeping and relaxing outside the veranda due to heat in the community,β he said, adding that the collapsed building and rubble fell on them and led to the death of the lady.
βThe remains of the young lady were buried in the early hours of Monday.β
He also added that the rubble also injured a mother and her son taking a nap on the collapsed building.
“The other victims who were severely injured, were helped and rushed to a nearby hospital in the community for medical treatments.β
According to sources in the community, the deceased was in church on Sunday to celebrate Easter with church members and friends.
When contacted, Ayeni Olasunkanmi, the spokesperson of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defense Corps (NSCDC), told journalists that he is unable to confirm the incident.
