LAGOS, Nigeria (VOICE OF NAIJA) – Governor Abdullahi Umar Ganduje of Kano State has announced a donation of N200 million and N50 million to victims of the recent fire outbreak at Singer and Kurmi markets respectively.

Recall that voiceofnaija.ng had earlier reported that both markets had been engulfed by fire, which razed down many shops, causing owners to lose items worth several millions of naira as well as other unquantifiable valuables.

Malam Muhammad Garba, the Commissioner for Information and Internal Affairs, made the disclosure in a press release earlier today, stating that the fund was intended to offer urgent assistance to the affected traders who lost items in the fire.

He said the leadership of the traders’ associations in the markets had been formally presented with the cheques of N250 million by the Governor at the Government House, Kano.

Garba added that after reviewing the committee’s findings, which are due in five days, the State Government would look into alternative measures to assist the traders.

Ganduje expressed sympathy to the victims of the incident and urged people and groups to help the traders in whatever way humanly possible.
