ENUGU, Nigeria (VOICE OF NAIJA)- The Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS) has apprehended about 303 suspected illegal immigrants in Uyo, Akwa Ibom State.
The State Comptroller Mrs. Francisca Dakat, said of the 303 apprehended, there were 285 adults.
Addressing journalists after a mop-up exercise in Uyo, at the weekend, Dakat said the mop-up was in line with the service directives that illegal Migrants and non-Nigerians should not partake in the general elections.
She said that the command had earlier carried out a sensitization for all non-Nigerians resident in the State before the mop-up.
She said: “The mop-up, which held within the Uyo metropolis, will be a continuous exercise and will be extended to all the 31 local government areas.”
The Immigration Service did not, however, readily state what would be done to the illegal migrants ahead of the 2023 elections.
