The Zazzau Emirate Council in Kaduna, has dismissed a palace guard, Samaila Abubakar, for allegedly conniving with his friends to gangrape a bride-to-be who was seeking the support of the monarch for her wedding.
The spokesperson of the council, Abdullahi Kwarbai, said the incident occurred when the lady visited the palace to seek an audience with the Emir.
Abdullahi Aliyu Kwarbai, the Media and Publicity Officer of the Emir, in a statement on Wednesday, 11 January, 2023, said: “Sama’ila Abubakar Rimin Tsiwa, a palace guard, has been dismissed with immediate effect from the services of the Zazzau Emirate Council for raping a lady on a mission to the palace.”
Kwarbai said the guard, while attempting to assist the lady, lured her to a location where he allegedly raped her alongside his friends.
“A lady preparing for her wedding seeking for assistance from the Emir approached him (Sama’ila), to be taken before the Emir but instead of doing that, he lured her to a location with his friends were they gang-raped her,” the statement read.
“The Council has directed the Police to speed-up with their investigations and ensure prosecution of the culprits without any delay.”
The statement explained that the emirate council promised to follow up with the case to ensure justice was done for the victim.
