The Lagos Command of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps, on Friday, confirmed the arrest of a 24-year-old suspect, Ridwan Akinbode, who hails from Oyo State and resides in the Bariga area of Lagos State.

The suspect alleged to be a child rapist, was said to be arrested a week after a victim reported her experience to the Command.

It was gathered that the suspect was fond of luring his victims to an uncompleted building where he would perpetrate the crime.

Luck however ran out for him on Friday as operatives of the command’s Anti-Human Trafficking and Gender Unit nabbed him in his hideout in Bariga.

The Corp’s commander, Eweka Okoro, in a statement released by the Public Relations Officer, Oluwaseun Abolurin, said the matter was reported to the gender unit last week after his victim was raped a second time.

The statement read in part: “The suspected paedophile was arrested following due diligence, credible and actionable intelligence taken on him by the command’s personnel, since the matter was reported to the above named unit last week.

“Preliminary investigations showed that the suspect first had carnal knowledge of his victim, aged 15, in an uncompleted building where he lured her two years ago. He made another attempt in October 2022 before he was finally arrested by our men.”

The command said it has partnered with the Women At Risk Medical International Foundation and other human rights and non-governmental groups to carry out medical examinations on the victim “in a bid to bring the culprit to book.”
