ENUGU, Nigeria (VOICE OF NAIJA)- Suspected hoodlums early on Thursday morning, invaded the residence of Senator Lee Maeba, in Rivers State.
His residence is located in the GRA, Phase 3 area of Port Harcourt, the State capital.
The thugs reportedly destroyed about five cars during the attack, The Punch reports.
Maeba is the Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Presidential Campaign Council in the State.
A source told The Punch that the hoodlums came from a nearby street, shot sporadically at his entrance, and eventually broke into the former Senator’s compound.
They reportedly destroyed about five cars, including a jeep, while three persons in the compound, including Senator Maeba’s relative scampered for safety.
About 10:50am, after the attack, a team of operatives of the Department of State Services and policemen were seen along with the Senator, driving into the residence.
Nigerians have since reacted to the incident, describing it as political anarchy while some others questioned the number of cars packed at the Senator’s car lot.
Twitter user, @AkiodiAkari said: “What happened is just the beginning of anarchy and political thuggery in Rivers State. The 200,000 Special Assistants paid 20k per month with effect from November must justify their duties else they won’t be paid in the months to come especially this December.”
According to @EjoOnyishi: “This is totally condemned, you don’t need all this intimidation if you’re really sure of delivering good leadership to your people, bcuas ur good governance will definitely speak for you.”
