You would attend almost every owanbe in Nigeria and find half of the women repping their confidence as they put it to the world. You would skim through Instagram for your fashion inspiration and find the ‘feminist trend’ as some put it, reflecting in their choice of clothes.

People are combining the ‘modest’ and ‘cleavage’ style now, and it blends well. We all thought our Alhajas were the only ones big on modesty before, but perhaps that idea has waned and a new one is now coming in place.
Modest cleavages.

Every day the question of why people show their cleavages is asked and different answers continue to meet us. While the majority believe cleavages are for sex appeal others believe it is for fashion, primarily to show their confidence through their clothes.
Modest fashion on the other hand is on the rise and what is quite interesting is the blend of modest fashion and cleavages. We have had celebrities defend revealing their cleavages as a way to prove how proud they are of their body. There is probably a point of evenness in exposing cleavages and modesty. However, we know our taste reflects in our fashion sense and even in every part of us. How do we then determine the inspiration behind other people’s styles?

The rise of modest fashion years ago and the booming of the business probably came as a surprise. Modest fashion has risen. While Fashion designers have long embraced models into the industry to walk on runways, and show what we once despised and tagged it as art, modest clothes are taking the runway by storm too.

Cleavages were not popular in Nigeria till the 2000s, but they now seem to be the new trend, especially among the female gender. Both are no doubt influenced by personal taste and style. So they are both still art expressed in different forms.
