ENUGU, Nigeria (VOICE OF NAIJA)- The Governor of Anambra State, Chukwuma Soludo, has banned all form of gambling services in the State.
The former Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) also ordered that all such centers to be sealed. The order and directive came on Friday.
The directive came following some reports of non-transparency in the casino machines and the payment system.
The notice of the ban was contained in a statement jointly signed by Mr. Donatus Onyenji; the Chairman, Anambra State Internal Revenue Service, Richard Madiebo; and the Commissioner for Homeland Affairs, Chikodi Anara.
According to the statement, the practice of the gambling centers goes against global procedures.
Also, reports from several gamblers in the state show that the system is being rigged.
The statement revealed further that such activities were “fraudulent” and would not be allowed to continue under the administration of Professor Chukwuma Soludo.
Furthermore, the government is set to hold a meeting with all hotel representatives on 21 October, (today).
The directive of the state government is said to have also affected hotels, bars, and restaurants with gambling centers.
