ENUGU, Nigeria (VOICE OF NAIJA)- Nigerian Investigative Journalist, Fisayo Soyombo, has recalled the statement Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu made three days after the shootings at Lekki Toll Gate which left over 20 people dead.
Fisayo, a multi-award winning journalist of international repute, recalled that the All Progressives Congress (APC) Presidential Candidate, who spoke about three days after the incident, asked why the people who were at the toll gate were there at the time of the shootings.
Nigerian youths had taken to the streets across the country to protest against incessant Police Brutality in the country, a demonstration which had lasted for days.
But on 20 October, 2022, while carrying out their demonstration at the Toll Gate in Lekki, Lagos, soldiers attacked the youths, and shot at them with live rounds of ammunition.
Two years after the incident, Fisayo remembers, clearly, what Tinubu, a former Lagos State Governor, had to say about the incident.
The Foundation for Investigative Journalism (FIJ) Boss wrote on his verified Twitter handle, @fisayosoyombo: “I will never forget that 3 days after #LekkiMassacre when Tinubu spoke to the media, these were his words: “Those that had suffered casualties during the gunshot need to answer some questions too. How were they there? How long were they there? What kind of characters were they?”
