IBADAN, Nigeria (VOICE OF NAIJA) – A Nigerian lady on Twitter, @koladeprincess has cried out for help for her mum who has been suffering abuse from her father.
In a series of tweets shared on Monday, the distraught lady said she doesn’t want her mum to die at 43 and end up like gospel artiste, Osinachi Nwachukwu, who allegedly suffered domestic violence from her husband, Peter Nwachukwu.
The Twitter user who resides in Zango Daji, Lokoja, Zone 4, Area 2, No 13, said her mum suffers from an ailment that makes her legs and stomach swell from time to time but despite her failing health, her father who is a pharmacist allegedly assaults her at the slightest opportunity.
She tweeted: “Hello, everyone. I’ve hid this for long, but I can’t anymore; I’m so tired of living in my home because of the abuse and violence that goes on. I live with fear in my house.
“I have to speak up before my mum ends up like Osinachi. I can’t let my mum die at her age of just 43!!
“I’m scared and trembling as I write this, but I can’t let that fear keep from speaking up. I hid my problems so the world won’t know because my father is the only one I have who sponsors I and siblings to school, feeding and housing. I’m scared of loosing this things.
“My mum also takes all these pain because of his miney. She wants us to become someone big in life and that includes schooling and fathering.
“My mum gets treated like trash because of a man who doesn’t love her but ended up getting married to her.
“He beats her like a punching bag over little things that isn’t supposed to be an argument.
Threatens to kill her, divorce her and thinks she’s a witch too. Insults her of her illiteracy, how her family are nothing to write home about.
“My mum is the only female of her parents with two younger siblings that aren’t well-to-do and an orphan after her mum died this year April.
“She gotten beaten this night because of a little thing that isn’t supposed to be problem…”
The young Lady continued: “Monday 17th of October, 2022 at 9pm-11pm my mum was almost killed by a man she calls her husband. I recorded some of the videos while the beating, shouting and wailing was going on, he noticed I was recording and slapped me.
“But I have got some others videos after I collected my phone from him.
“My mum has problems with her health too; I don’t if it is kidney or heart, but my dad never for once took her to the hospital. Her legs and hands and stomach gets swollen from time to time.
“Yet my dad still beats her. And This man is a pharmacist!!!
“I really need your help guys, to get I, my siblings and mum out of this man’s house…
I know how many times I’ve contemplated or either running away or commiting suicide.
“My siblings cry whenever this happens, so many times I get report of them either chased out or beaten till they get wounds and scars.
“Below are the videos I could record… I’m posting this at 1:12 because I don’t know if I could still have access to my phone when it is morning. I need help, please!
“Housing, food, job and everything… I don’t want my mum to die or my immediate brother to commit suicide, I see him sad everytime. My mum cries Everytime!”
Shortly after the initial tweet, she wrote: “I’m so sorry about not placing my account number on the last post, I was so scared and angry yesterday, I had to just rush and write everything.
“Some people are asking me to itemize what I need at the moment and I would, below.
“Firstly, I need to get my mum take to the hospital, her body is all swollen. She’s asthmatic and has problems with her heart and kidney I think. I really don’t know what’s wrong with her, my dad always just gives her drugs and not take her to the hospital.
“Secondly, my siblings education is at risk. I can’t let this disrupt their life and education.
“I also need an accommodation, because i never expected this tweet to go viral. I only posted out of frustration, so at least my voice to get to people, because I have always hidden it. I can’t go back home and stay when he knows what I need. I’m scared.
“Thirdly, my mum has only two relatives. One of them doesn’t care that much, the other cares but has no money to support my mum. So she can start working as a self-employed person. She’s presently a stay at home, so she needs a shop preferably a supermarket.
“I also have school to go. I’m going to school next week. I am a university student of Lautech studying Anatomy.
“That’s all I can think of for now. I don’t know what I need now as I am going to the police station wty a friend to make a statement.”
Hours later, @koladeprincess gave an update on the issue. She said the police in Lokoja are trying to sweep the matter under carpet.
According to her, her dad is in the police station and they are blaming her for bringing it online and not attack her father when he was beating her mother.
“Hello, everyone. The police here in Lokoja are trying to sweep the matter under the carpet here, they are blaming me for bringing it online and not attacking why he was beating my mum. My mum is also scared of coming down to police station to make a statement.
“They just want to end it just like that without doing anything, my dad was in their office talking to them for hours, turning their mind and support towards him. The police are opting to just settle it amicably and they want me to go back home.
“Please I don’t want this matter to die like that. I can’t go back to living back. He will beat me, seize my phone. We really need help.”
Reacting to her tweets, @pharm_UC said that the act was horrible from a man of noble profession.
“A pharmacist? That’s horrible from a man of noble profession. If it is possible let them separate, better to be alive separate then tolerate suffering till death.
“Then visit your mom once in while until you guys are well to do to take good care of her.”
Advising her @akowienijero wrote: “She needs to go to the hospital for proper check up. Report the issue of domestic violence to the appropriate authorities.”
Another tweep, @TEJ wrote: “This is so dangerous!!!! Please check her for blood clot and hypertension. Omgggg”
@sambanzy also tweeted: “She needs immediate check-up, could be hypertension leading to kidney issues.”
