Below is the tweet she made appealing to Nigerians to come to their aid in Rivers State:
No fewer than 27 of Nigeria’s 36 states have recorded incessant flooding, a development which has affected more than half a million people.
According to the Nigeria’s National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA), 100,000 persons are currently displaced and more than 500 injured.
The disaster has also destroyed thousands of hectares of farmland and buildings.
Although Nigeria experiences flooding every year, this year’s flooding appears to be worse compared to previous ones.
Meanwhile, authorities are blaming this year’s floods on water overflowing from local rivers, unusual rainfalls and the release of excess water from Lagdo dam in neighbouring Cameroon’s northern region.
