ENUGU, Nigeria (VOICE OF NAIJA)- Former Minister of Aviation, Osita Chidoka, has stressed the importance of unity in South-East, saying that it harnesses the inherent opportunities in the region.
He made the call during a lecture entitled, ”Let’s Renew the South-East Now” at the ninth Kalu Ezera Lecture organized by the Nigerian Political Science Association (NPSA), South-East zone, held in Enugu.
Chidoka said there is the need for regional collaboration among South-East states in the area of education, healthcare, infrastructure, security and judiciary.
“The synergy between the states will engender a uniform economy, which will transcend our collective size,” he said.
According to the former Minister, it was time South-East pulled away and continued to measure itself against global peers while ensuring the region continued to move in the right direction.
In his address, the Chairman, NPSA, South-East zone, Professor Jaja Nwanegbo, noted that South-East economy has become a caricature of what the founding fathers envisioned it for.
“Today we have a South-East economy that has become a caricature of what was created by Dr. Nnamdi Azikiwe and Michael Ọkpara.
“It has moved from being the fast growing economy in the world to a place where the markets and other economic activities take place for as few as only three days in a week at sometimes,” he added.
