IBADAN, Nigeria (VOICE OF NAIJA) – The Minister of Labour and Employment, Dr. Chris Ngige, on Tuesday, presented certificates of registration to two university-based unions.
The two unions were registered in a bid to weaken the influence of the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU).
The certificates were presented to factions of the Academic Staff Union of Universities known as the Congress of Nigerian University Academics and the National Association of Medical and Dental Academics.
Recall that ASUU has been on strike since 14 February, 2022, as lecturers of public universities protest unpaid allowances and demand better welfare package from the Federal Government.
According to Ngige, both unions would exist alongside ASUU in the tertiary education system.
