IBADAN, Nigeria (VOICE OF NAIJA) – Asiwaju Bola Tinubu, the All Progressives Congress (APC) presidential candidate, is planning to include an additional 2,000 members in the newly constituted Presidential Campaign Council of the party.
According to The PUNCH, this development was meant to pacify the APC National Working Committee members and state governors who were not pleased with the 422-member campaign council.
This is coming as reports went rife over a letter supposedly written by Abdullahi Adamu, the National Chairman of the APC, where he accused Tinubu of running a one-man show over the selection of members of the PCC, among others.
Last Friday, the former Lagos State Governor had unveiled a 422-man committee comprising political heavyweights and other notable members to pilot the various sub-committees of the presidential campaign council.
But reports say the composition of the PCC did not go down well with some APC Governors, including Ben Ayade of Cross River and AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq of Kwara.
They were said to have been shocked over the exclusion of their nominees after their efforts in identifying potential candidates who could mobilise support and deliver votes for the party in the 2023 polls.
The aggrieved Governors reportedly bared their minds to Atiku Bagudu, the Kebbi State Governor and Chairman of the Progressive Governors Forum as well as Adamu, the APC Chairman.
Asides the unhappy Governors, members of the NWC were also displeased with the PCC list, while noting that Tinubu did not allow them properly vet the names before he made the public announcement.
While arguing that the composition of a presidential campaign council is something that ought to be done jointly by the candidate and the party, the aggrieved NWC members also opined that the list contains certain names that shouldn’t have been added because they have little or no electoral value.
